The Ether » is the very first song born out of the collaboration between French guitarist Jean-Pascal Boffo and singer-songwriter Florent Simon.
The result is a really moving and intimate song with a certain pop feeling. Bathed in Jean-Pascal's soothing electric guitars is Florent's pure and melancholy voice, reaching unaccustomed colours for the French singer who usually evolves in a more acoustic/folk register.
On the other hand, this new song is further proof that, for the past 25 years, Jean-Pascal Boffo's musical path has been driven by eclecticism and a belief in instinctive artistic encounters.
And what a striking example of a musical encounter that one was :
the two musicians met in July 2020 when Florent chose to record his debut album « The birds are back » at Jean-Pascal's studio (Studio Amper, Clouange, France). He fully trusted him to help him shape the sound of the unusual trio (guitar, clarinet and cello) and two days later, the 11 songs were recorded, and ready to be mixed, mastered and published.
As they really got along musically, sharing myriads of influences and discoveries, with a thirst for new creations,Jean-Pascal asked Florent to join his impressive list of collaborators and co-writers (Cascadeur, Fredo Viola,Claire Parsons, Jo Cimatti, Aurore Reichert,...), entrusting him with the guitar part that would soon become
« The Ether ».
They are currently working on a new track to be released this Spring.
lyrics
It lingers in the colour of the night
treading softly, weighing less than a ray of light
on a wall of withered flowers
fainting like a broken heart
Hear this in the echo of my fist
pounding hard on the shadow of my fears
like the humming of the breeze
in the foaming wake of my dreams
If only I had seen
the invisible wires
pulling you up
dancing like fire
I'd have stayed on the quay
frozen in time
So long, I have everything I need
to set for smaller deeds
and be one with the sand
back to square one
Pausing for a brief second of doubt
heart-breaking radars from a former life
a flicker and a nod
and the day will be done
If only I had seen
the invisible wires
pulling you up
dancing like fire
I'd have stayed on the quay
frozen in time
But there is no door to enter the ether
So I'll try to forget what I have learnt
